Comedian Hasan Minhaj dropped his latest YouTube video discussing the H-1B visa row in the US as he explained that understanding the MAGA opposition to H-1B is key to understanding the future of the Republican Party. The most crucial M word for the administration is not MAGA or Mamdani, Minhaj said, but it’s merit, which distinguishes between documented and undocumented immigrants. But the line blurred in the second Trump administration which started with a major MAGA feud over H-1B, Minhaj said as he gave a recap of the H-1B row. “I mean, actually, our country was built by third-world invaders looking for India. And now that we show up, now you’re mad. I mean, we literally came with the spices that you were looking for. Think of it as a Door Dash that took 400 years ,” Minhaj said.

Tech billionaires vs nativist wing of MAGA

Minhaj explained how this H-1B row has two sides and the tech billionaires who believe in H-1B to hire top talent are pitted against the nativist wing of MAGA, which is spearheaded by people like Steve Bannon. Then Minhaj touched on the issue of the H-1B misuse, citing news clips on H-1B. He showed the 2017 interview of Bruce Morrison, the Congressman who came up with the original bill, who said the bill was being abused using some loopholes.

Big Green Card energy: Vivek, Usha, Nikki, Kash

Minhaj said the Republican Party does not hate Indians as some of the big names of the party are Indians like Vivek Ramaswamy, Usha Vance, Nikki Haley and Kash Patel, who were not born in India but Minhaj said they have big Green Card energy and they said America is not a racist country. President Donald Trump, too, did not take any action against H-1B until last September, when he imposed a $100,000 fee, Minhaj said. His H-1B jokes even had a speculation that Trump probably did not want to impose the H-1B fee because he never did it in the past but he had to do it now because of the Gen Z conservatives. After Charlie Kirk’s death, many H-1B-haters are auditioning for his position, Minjaj said, naming Natalie Winters and Brett Cooper. They are present in any Turning Point USA even, Minhaj said, adding that Vivek got ripped by these Turning Point crowd, but Vice President JD Vance didn’t because he knows how to handle this crowd by throwing his Hindu wife under the bus. Then Minhaj moved to Nalin Haley and his staunch H-1B opposition and how this turned into a culture war. MAGA does not want merit, they want a preferential treatment for heritage Americans, like a hierarchy, a caste system, which is the most Indian thing to do, Minhaj said.
